Roma student Althea's drawing might save lives
ROMA youngster Althea Flores might have just been drawing a pretty picture, but it will be used to help people that need it most.
Althea was the lucky winner of a drawing competition by Roma Police as part of Project Beacon, which aims to reach out to rural families facing financial hardship.
Her work will now be used on a fridge magnet containing emergency and support phone numbers.
Sergeant Cian Jacobs spearheaded the project, which he said was just one of the ways they were trying to reach out to the people living in rural Maranoa.
"Basically, we came with an idea because we wanted to get information for people on the land, who might be a bit hesitant to talk to family member.
"They may pick up a phone number and talk to a professional.
"We thought the easiest vehicle for that was a fridge magnet, because people don't chuck them away," he said.
Other finalists were Tyler Thrupp, Erin Chambers and Dusty Schubert.
