Queensland Fisheries boss found dead after dive expedition

UPDATE 1.30PM: Fisheries Queensland director Andrew Thwaites has been identified as the diver who died off Moreton Island, the Courier Mail reports.

Acting Director General Department of Agriculture and Fisheries Malcolm Lett confirmed the missing diver was Mr Thwaites.

Fisheries Minister Leanne Donaldson has been briefed and expressed her concern and support for staff and family and friends of the popular marine scientist.   More at the Courier Mail.

 

TODAY 11.33AM: POLICE have found the diver who had been missing off Moreton Island since about 2pm yesterday. 

The body was located by police divers about 10.30 this morning - near Henderson Rock - where the deceased was last seen.

Police say a report will now be prepared for the coroner. 

 

YESTERDAY: Brisbane Water Police are searching for a 44-year-old man who failed to surface from a chartered dive at Henderson Rock.

Authorities were advised about 2.20pm today the man had failed to surface in waters off Moreton Bay.

The air and water search consists of 10 QPS and Volunteer Marine Rescue vessels and aerial assets from AMSA and Surf Lifesaving Queensland.
