Age no hurdle for Roma's Pony Club

Pony Club: If you have ever wanted to learn how to ride a pony then there's no better time then the present.

Roma's Pony Club caters for all ages and all classes of riders and, as long as you bring your own horse, the sky is the limit.

Pony Club instructor Jane Green help run an instructors' class for Zone 20 at the club over the weekend and she said they have a fantastic turnout.

"It was a really big weekend with over 20 instructors and about 45 children,” she said.

"It was basically a refresher course for the instructors and we taught the pre-schoolers how to become instructors and then the kids were just there to learn new things.”

Ms Green said they try and mix things up for the younger riders so they learn a whole range of techniques.

"The kids learn a variety of things so jumping, cross country, dressage, challenges, sporting, dressage, campdraft and how to handle a horse,” she said.

Although there are a lot of younger riders, Ms Green said the club is for all ages.

"It's something anyone at any age can do and we really like to get senior riders, so anyone over the age of 26, to join.”

"We do have some older riders in the club and it's really good because it keeps you fit and it is a good hobby to take on if you have your own horse.”
