Senate says response to black spots must be better tailored

A SENATE committee has urged the Turnbull government to provide more and better-targeted funding to address black spots - areas with a high frequency of accidents - on highways in rural and regional areas.

Tabled in parliament on Tuesday, the Rural and Regional Affairs and Transport Committee's interim report on road safety noted the $50 billion in national roads funding over four years announced in the Federal Budget, but called for "tailored solutions in regional and remote areas that focus on road safety rather than driver convenience".
