MEMORIAL services were held in Cairns on the weekend to mark the one-year anniversary since eight children were tragically stabbed and killed.

The children's families, friends and members of the public gathered at services in Cairns to mark the anniversary and thank the community for support.

The bodies of four boys and four girls, aged between about 18 months and 15 years, were found at the house in the suburb of Manoora last year, less than a week before Christmas.

The mother of seven of the children and aunty of one of the children has been charged with their murders.

On the weekend, two public memorial services were held, including a remembrance day followed by a concert and a tree planting ceremony.

The house where the children died has been knocked down and is a site where people continue to lay tributes.
