81-year-old driver dies after highway crash

AN 81-YEAR-OLD driver has died after a crash on the Bunya Highway, 17 kilometres north of Dalby on Wednesday.

Police said the crash occurred about 10.50am when  the vehicle heading south on the Bunya Highway left the road and struck an embankment.

The elderly female driver was transported to Dalby Hospital in a critical condition however was later pronounced deceased.

A male passenger was also transported to Dalby Hospital with minor injuries only.

A Queensland Ambulance Service earlier told News Regional Media that paramedics were called to the serious incident just after 11am.

Traffic was condensed down to one lane by police as emergency services attended the incident. 

Investigations by the Forensic Crash Unit are continuing.
