EMERALD: The owners of a Jade St residence arrived home to a rude shock at the weekend after their house was destroyed during an out-of-control house party on Saturday night.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, about 4.45am, Emerald police received a call alerting them to the party, which Senior Sergeant Peter MacFarlane estimated to have caused about $50,000 in damages.
On arrival police found about 20 people at the residence, and "immediately" noticed "extensive" damage to both the exterior and interior of the home.
"There were holes punched in the walls, and damage to electrical appliances," Snr Sgt MacFarlane said.
"The party was held while the owners were away... there was a young person at the party who lives at the house but investigations are continuing as to whether that person consented to the party."
Sgt MacFarlane said although this kind of incident was uncommon in Emerald, residents were encouraged to report them.
"This event was quite loud and we thought there would have been more calls about it," he said.
"I think people are still getting used to calling Police Link outside of office hours. Residents can still call us from 8am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, and talk to their local cop, but obviously we can't have someone in the office at all times.
"If you call Police Link (131 444) it will get logged in Brisbane, and sent back to us, we're a 24/7 station, so your local officer will still attend the scene."
