.320 drink driving reading lands man in jail

A 53-YEAR-old man will spend the next month in jail, after a high range drink driving incident, during which he hit another man with his vehicle just before Christmas last year.

The incident occurred in the car park of the New Royal Hotel Motel in Surat about 8.30pm on December 23, 2013.

Police attended the scene where a male person was being treated for minor injuries by ambulance officers.

The defendant, James Patrick Abberton, had fled the scene, however was located by police fully clothed and asleep on his bed a short time later.

Police took the man to hospital where he recorded a high range blood alcohol reading of .320.

Magistrate Terry Gardiner sentenced the man to three months imprisonment when he appeared in Roma Magistrates Court today charged with driving under the influence of liquor and driving without due care and attention.

He will be released from jail on May 23.

Abberton was also suspended from driving for 30 months.
