16s lose return leg to Emerald

RUGBY LEAGUE: The Roma Cities under-16s have gone down to Emerald Brothers over the weekend, losing 32-10.

After winning 46-24, the trip was a great opportunity for the team to get some more football under their belts with limited sides in the Roma District comp.

Coach Matt Waldron said he was impressed with his side's ability to 'adapt' to the different style of rugby league shown by Emerald.

"The climate up there is a little bit different to down here, so it was pleasing to see them adapt to a different style of game.”

Mr Waldron said he was keen to find more games of football for his 16s team - even if it meant travelling to towns like Emerald.

"Going forward - for next season - I think it's something that's got to be looked at,” he said.

"We need to make sure bush football doesn't die and ensuring kids at a grassroots level have enough footy under their belt is a good place to start.”
