A 23-year-old Caboolture woman has been ordered to pay $1000 compensation after stubbing a lit cigarette out in a journalist's face.

Bianca Jade Cahill appeared in Redcliffe Magistrates Court on August 20, facing one public nuisance charge relating to the cigarette incident, and one charge of failing to appear in court.

The charges stemmed from an incident in June outside Caboolture Magistrates Court, where Cahill stabbed a lit cigarette in Channel Nine reporter Alex Bernhardt's face.

Media had been attempting to interview Cahill, who was at the court to support a friend charged with murder, at the time.

Cahill later attempted to plead guilty to the public nuisance charge in absenteeism, however police prosecutor Naomi Sherrington successfully argued she should appear.

The matter was adjourned, but when Cahill failed to appear for sentencing, a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Cahill was found guilty on both charges and was placed on 12 month probation in addition to being forced to pay compensation to Ms Bernhardt.

A conviction was also recorded.
