1000 homeless as rain, river cause havoc in Forbes
IT could be days before about 1000 Forbes residents return home after flood waters washed through the central west NSW town on Sunday.
Authorities are warning more pain is on the way.
The Lachlan River hit 10.67m last night after 17mm of rain fell in the region on Saturday.
Rain has been falling in the area since August 30.
The State Emergency Service said it expected sewerage and power problems across Forbes and for 1000 residents to be temporarily homeless after 100 properties were swamped.
The Bureau of Meteorology says another Lachlan River peak next week will mean even more hardship for the region.
"The situation at Forbes is continuing - the river is still rising, albeit slowly," SES spokeswoman Sue Pritchard told the Nine Network.
Ms Pritchard said the SES had answered 2343 calls for assistance and completed 96 rescues in the past three weeks. - ARM NEWSDESK
